There aren’t many venues that are better for a Folk Festival than Tudhope Park in Orillia. Right on the waters of Lake Simcoe there’s no parking hassles, crowd hassles or heat hassles. It really is the perfect spot and always feels a lot smaller than it actually is. Which makes for some great performances.
This year they celebrate 50 years. That means the first festival was back in 1961, which must have been the early days of festivals themselves. Past performers have included everyone from Bob Dylan, to Neil Young, Daniel Lanois (above) and Feist. This year is a nod to the past with legendary Canadian folkies Gordon Lightfoot, Murray McLauchlan, Sylvia Tyson and Ian Tyson. That’s not to say all the performers are in your parent’s record collection; Serena Ryder, Matt Anderson, Jason Collett and Zeus will also be playing mutliple stages over the three day festival. For more info check out the Mariposa web site. You can’t go wrong attending this legendary festival.
