Gear We Like: Polartec with Cocona

This Marmot Lightweight 1/2 Zip makes an ideal summer activity shirt. This one is longsleeve, but since it’s made of Polartec Power Dry wicking material, you’ll still stay cool while avoiding the shirt-tan. (For those immune to shirt-tan, it comes in short-sleeve as well.)

This new, softer Power Dry fabric, released for Fall 12, is the most comfortable next-to-skin layer we’ve tested, and Cocona makes it even more so. This performance technology fibre is based on activated carbon derived from coconut shells. Each year more than 20 billion coconuts are produced for various industries. Cocona technology uses coconut husk waste to make activated carbon. The vast pore structure on the surface of the activated carbon increases the surface area of Cocona yarns; increasing surface area creates a wicking/siphoning effect on perspiration, picking it quickly up off the skin.
